How do I scan my film negatives?
You can scan film negatives using several methods:
- Flatbed scanner with transparency unit: Epson V600, V850, Canon CanoScan
- Dedicated film scanner: Plustek, Nikon Coolscan, Pacific Image
- Digital camera scanning: DSLR/mirrorless with macro lens and light table
- Smartphone scanning: Using a film scanning app with backlight
For best results, scan at 2400-4800 DPI and save as TIFF or DNG for maximum quality.
What are the film emulation presets?
Negative Room includes presets that emulate the look of popular film stocks:
- Kodak Portra: Natural skin tones, low contrast, professional portrait film
- Kodak Ektar: Vivid colors, fine grain, great for landscapes
- Kodak Gold: Warm tones, consumer-friendly, nostalgic look
- Fuji C200: Neutral colors, good all-around film
- Fuji Superia: Punchy colors, slightly cool tones
- CineStill 800T: Cinematic look, tungsten-balanced, halation effects
- B&W Standard: Classic black and white conversion
- B&W High Contrast: Dramatic black and white with deep shadows
How does the orange mask removal work?
Color negative film has an orange mask built into the base to improve color reproduction during traditional darkroom printing. When scanning, this orange cast needs to be removed. Negative Room's "Auto Color Balance" feature automatically detects and removes the orange mask, then adjusts the white balance for accurate colors.
Can I process black and white negatives?
Yes! Negative Room works great with black and white negatives. Use the "B&W Standard" or "B&W High Contrast" presets, or manually adjust the saturation to 0 and tweak the contrast and exposure to taste.
What about slide film (E-6)?
Slide film (positive/reversal film like Kodak Ektachrome or Fuji Velvia) doesn't need inversion since it's already a positive image. However, you can still use Negative Room to adjust colors, exposure, and apply presets to your slide scans.
Is my data private?
We take your privacy seriously. Images uploaded by anonymous users are automatically deleted after 24 hours. We don't sell or share your images with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for more details.
Can I batch process multiple images?
Yes! You can drag and drop multiple files at once or use the "Add More" button to upload additional images. All images in your gallery can be downloaded individually or all at once using the "Download All" button.
